Mythology

What is a myth?

A story made entirely of fiction, a way to explain historical and environmental events before science was able, a means to spread information by word of mouth? All of these things can make up the question's answer. But perhaps the best definition is that myth is what came before, giving a set of guidelines for what will come. This would infer that while myths are generally a huge lie, there is a kernel of truth that started them. Something that needed to be explained, needed to be acknowledged. It could be as small as a single piece of sand within a vast beach, one bit of truth among thousands of deceitful words. This truth is still important, because isn't it the truth that the myth was born from? Perhaps there is always truth within a lie, especially a lie big enough to still be remembered today. We only have to want to pursue the myths true meaning, or simply enjoy the story.
